CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 16, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team closed out a perfect fall semester with an perfect record by sweeping Cedar Crest College, 9-0, here Saturday.
Rutgers-Camden ends its fall season with an 8-0 record, while Cedar Crest closes its fall semester at 0-3.
The Scarlet Raptors jumped off to a great start by sweeping all three doubles matches. At first doubles, sophomore
Sarah Ahrens and senior
Tiffany Trivers posted an 8-0 win, while sophomore
Samantha Hoban and junior
Laurel DiStefano earned an 8-3 win at second doubles. In the third spot, seniors
Morgan Dempsey and
LeAnne Hall won, 8-0.
The Scarlet Raptors posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at first, third, fifth and sixth singles behind Ahrens, Trivers, Hall and senior
Hannah Cohan, respectively. At second singles, Hoban won 6-1, 6-0, while DiStefano captured a 6-0, 6-2 win at fourth singles.
Hoban finished the fall semester with a 9-2 record in singles (8-0 dual matches and 1-2 in tournament play). Trivers was 8-3 (6-2/2-1), hile Hall and Dempsey were 6-1 and 5-2, respectively, all in dual match play. Ahrens and DiStefano both went 6-5 (5-3 dual matches/1-2 tournament), while Cohan was 1-0.
In doubles play, Ahrens and Trivers combined to go 8-0, all in dual match play. Dempsey and Hall were 9-1 (7-0 dual matches/2-1 tournament) and DiStefano and Hoban were 4-4 in dual matches.
The Scarlet Raptors will return to action during the spring semester, when they will compete in New Jersey Athletic Conference play as well as several non-conference matches.
Heading to the spring, several of the Scarlet Raptors are high on the list of career victories at Rutgers-Camden. In singles play, Trivers owns 29 singles victories (second) and Hall has 26 (third). Dempsey has 18 (tied for seventh), while DiStefano and Hoban are tied for 11th place with 13 career singles wins.
In doubles play, Hall is second with 29 career wins, while Trivers is third with 27. Dempsey has 21 doubles wins (fifth), while Cohan and DiStefano are tied for 12th place with 11.
For overall wins, Trivers is second (56), Hall is third (55) and Dempsey is sixth (39).
