GALLOWAY, N.J. (Sept. 29, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team ended one frustration here Wednesday night, but a bigger one continued as the Scarlet Raptors dropped a 3-1 decision to Stockton University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
The loss drops the Scarlet Raptors to 1-6-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the NJAC, extending their winless streak to seven games (0-6-1). Stockton, which is unbeaten now in its last 10 games (8-0-2) improves to 8-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.
The Scarlet Raptors are 2-19-4 in their all-time series against the Ospreys.
Stockton scored the game's first goal at 7:52 when Sydney Williams hit a 10-yard shot for her third goal of the season, assisted by Sophia Drea.
Rutgers-Camden, however, bounced back in the 20th minute, earning a penalty kick after an Osprey handball in the box. Junior midfielder
Lindsay Hernandez buried the shot at 19:20 to not only tie the game, but to snap the fourth-longest scoring drought in program history. Her goal was the first for the Raptors in 598:18, a streak that included five straight shutouts. The streak started after a goal by
Maggie Horn in a 2-1 loss to Adrian College on Sept. 4.
As it turned out, the shot by Hernandez was the lone Scarlet Raptor shot of the day as Stockton held an 8-1 advantage in that category. The Scarlet Raptors held a slim 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Stockton put the game away in the second half with a pair of goals, as Williams scored in the 57th minute off a cross from Emily Hauck and Allie Magas added an insurance tally at 65:44. She headed home a cross from Jessica Heitmann.
Raptor sophomore goalie
Chloe Beasley made four saves in the game, while Stockton keeper Kylee Sullivan didn't have any saves.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday when they host William Paterson University in a 1 p.m. NJAC game.
