Biersbach's long-range strike lifts Rutgers-Camden past NJCU men

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Oct. 19, 2024) – The Rutgers University-Camdenmen's soccer team took plenty of shots against New Jersey City University here Saturday, but it took a sensational strike by sophomore forward Nathan Biersbach to provide the game-winning goal.

Biersbach unleashed a 40-yard direct kick into the upper left corner midway through the 75th minute to lift the Scarlet Raptors over the Gothic Knights in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.

The win lifts the Scarlet Raptors to 7-5-4 overall and 3-1-2 in the NJAC, raising their record in the all-time series against NJCU to 32-8-8. Rutgers-Camden is 17-0-3 in the series since their last loss to New Jersey City in 2005.

NJCU falls to 6-7-3 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Rutgers-Camden had a 13-8 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 margin in the second half. NJCU had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Scarlet Raptor senior goalie Sean Boen made three saves to notch his eighth shutout of the season and the 26th of his career, second on the program's all-time list.

Gothic Knights freshman keeper Dominic Cunha also finished with three saves.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday with a 7 p.m. home NJAC match against William Paterson University.
