Weather spoils Saturday schedule for women's tennis, men's soccer
CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 6, 2025) – The weather was the only winner on Saturday as it forced an early end to the day for both the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis and men's soccer teams.
The cancelations started early after the women's tennis team had made the long trip to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to play on the opening day of the two-day King's College Invitational. The season-opening tournament was called by rain shortly after it started. It will resume on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
Later in the day, the men's soccer team hosted New York University in a matchup of two strong programs, but numerous lightning delays, with the mandated 30-minute clearance of the field, eventually caused the game to be cancelled and count as no contest. The score was 0-0 at the time.
The first delay happened with 3:48 remaining in the first half. After play resumed and the teams agreed to a short five-minute halftime, the second half went only 4:39 before another delay was forced by lightning. After the delay kept getting extended by more nearby lightning strikes, the game was called at the 49:39 mark.
The men's soccer team, 2-0-1, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Arcadia University at 7 p.m.
